An old Belgian made 3-gallon Outboard Marine tank was given to me and I would like to get it back into working condition. Of course it has decades old gas gunk in it that I am working on. Unscrewed the fuel feed and found a brass plug at the local hardware store to plug the hole so I don’t damage the filter when tumbling the tank.

Here’s my question. How do I replace the gasket on the inside of the cap? The thumb screw comes all the way out, but it looks like the inside part that locks the cap down onto the tank doesn’t come off. The gasket is behind that part and seems to be too wide to slip off of the cap without tearing it apart.

Any suggestions from someone that has replaced such a gasket before?

Also, anyone know if the repro decals for this old tank are available. Has English and French directions on it.

Sorry, can’t figure out how/if photos can be attached.

      Thanks,

      Dale
