      Can anyone tell me of a source for a replacement of the operating instruction decal atop the side covers on a Mate? Thanks, Jim

          Yes, thanks for looking for it and your reply. I tried to post the same photo earlier. I’ll just keep watching. Maybe I’ll get lucky. Thanks again, Jim

                Those are copies – the original had a background that was powdered aluminum in a clear lacquer varnish. The varnish unfortunately turns yellow with age. The background of the original decal matched the aluminum of the cover. They were only used in 1940 and 1941 when it surfaced how few owners actually read there owners manuals. . . 🙂

                  Thanks Garry for the information and clarifying what years these decals might have appeared. One thing that stumps me is that they are seen on the 1939 Mate pictured in Peter Hunn’s book BEAUTIFUL OUTBOARDS, Jim

                    Up through 1939 the Evinrude printing was bold capital script with the front having the winged medallion above the Evinrude and the model name below – like this;

                    In 1940 they "improved" the look by switching to a neoclassic print and added the curved lines on either side of the front design.

                    So it may be a ’39 Mate, but it has a 1940 decal on it.
