      I have a number of 40 and 44" Mercs here in various states ,
      from M55 to Mark 500 thru hub
      Some mbrs are looking for lower units and it would appear Merc
      made a running change to the stud diameter on the l/u’s during this period.
      With out taking them all off, when was the change made?
      Was the change prior to thru hub exh, ie; 1962, or,
      coincident with the switch from 4 transfer ports to 2 ports, or….?
      later, ie; M58A and prior, ie; 1959 ?
      I have only two 4 port block motors, ie; M55s.

        check the nut size 9/16 nut small studs
        5/8 nuts large.
        the studs can be changed so the lowers will fit non jet with non jet all jet have large studs.
