That kit won’t fit 5.5 hp.or a 7.5 hp of our vintage motors. I’m thinking it would be for the later 80’s 90’s 6 ,7.5 and 8 HP

On the contrary, the 1979-up 6hp kit does supersede and replace the old familiar kit in the older 5.5-6-7.5 motors that we are used to seeing.
With shipping and exchange rate figured in, it works out to around $37.50 CDN, which isn’t too bad.
These kits fit any 5.5, 6, or 7.5 horse motor from ’54 thru ’79.
Well I’ll be darned. You learn something every day. Now my question is this. What about the impeller only? Or do you need the whole kit just to replace the impeller on the early 5. -7.5s? think I know the answer.
You need the whole kit. I’ve used one, it seems very well made.

That is what I figured. Not a bad deal if you need the whole thing. Thanks for the info! Ken

not sure about that question …
the answer being … just buy an impeller if your original impeller casing and plate is ok.
but for the price of an impeller depending on brand , shipping $$, quality etc… the new kit is probably the way to go.
As of right now, the impeller for the metal housing is still available. http://www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=OMC0434424
