When I was taking the tiller handle apart, the gear on the control rod
shaft fell off. The gear was originally peened on a "square" hub, and
the hub is pinned on the control rod / shaft.
I have four choices of which way the gear could be peened back in place,
but guessing I won’t be happy if I guess wrong.

Does anyone know the correlation with the tab, or wide spot on the
gear teeth, in regards to the flat on the shaft on the other end?
      Thanks for any enlightenment!

You see how the handle screws to the shaft. The screw head corresponds to the speed pointer on the handle. With the pointer on start and the motor on start the double space should be down on the handle and the double tooth be down on the motor. Check it out. That handle is also used on the ’56 Sportwin and Fisherman. . . 😉

Gary, the power head is sitting on the bench with no mag on it, but
going by what you said, I’ll try to simulate the proper position.
          Thanks!!

            Buc,

I just looked at my OMC motors and Garry is on target as usual. His advice is just what you need to make it right.
