      Fired up my 57 Gale 12 last weekend and the upper water tube grommet is leaking water. Do I have to pull the powerhead to replace or just drop the lower unit? This motor has the water flush plug at the top of the exhaust housing, and the housing looks to be the same as my 1954 Super Fastwin.

        Drop the gearcase.

        You will need to rig up a little tool to push it up. Grease it well first. I have a little push tool, sort of stepped, so I can push it up.

        Some models have a hole in the leg, right at the elevation of the grommet, so you can push a punch through, where the tab is, to ease in removal/install, but I cannot remember off hand if yours is one of those.
