      Greetings all, I just acquired a free Montgomery Ward motor from a neighbor. According to Lang’s it is a 1957 3 horse motor made by Gale. The model number is 74GG9006. Lang’s does not show the “74” prefix and I was wondering what it stood for. Being that Gale is a division of OMC are any parts interchangeable with Evenrude or Johnson? This motor was still running well the last time it was used over 20 years ago. Motor turns over good and gas tank is spotless inside so I think I will try to start it in the tank before dismantling to check electrical. Is there any source for a parts and or repair manual? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill

        The Number you list looks to be a 1946-48 Gale. Here’s a reference:

        As you can see there….the Gale Model equivalent is 1W4.

            74GG denotes the year. Reverse the 74 and you get 47—-1947
