      Looking to remove the powerhead, and wondering about the best way to get at the 2 side 1/2″hex-nuts to release the front of the block from the exhaust tube assembly.

      The lower metal cowl is deep enough that the nuts are hidden pretty well. There must be a technique or tool available.

      Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

        I’ve used a distributor wrench and an altered cheap box wrench to get into the tight spaces with good results. You only get about 1/4 turn each time but it gets you there.

          Thank you Very much Steve D for taking the time to reply.
          My distributer wrench is to long in the horizontal section next to the socket to be able to swing at all inside the cowl. I also tried another similar but shorter tool that I borrowed from an aviation tech friend who worked on Pratt & Whitney radial engines, still no luck.

          Think I’ll have to modify a cheap wrench as you have done.
          All part of the hobby is to try and overcome these little challenges.

              Thanks also to Frank for the reply.

              I tried again today with the P&W tool and was successful on both side nuts. Different day, different outcome!

              Now wondering about best procedure to remove the carb.

              The ’60 10hp the carb with its remote carb control knobs and levers looks interesting.

                just  take a pictue or two if you are worried about reassembly… and jump in.  I find the mounting bolts are  more of a pain being so imbedded but once  loose just pull on the carb body as you finger  unscrew the bolts.

                  Thanks Crosbyman, I didn’t make myself clear, sorry.

                  I have the 2 mounting bolts removed, but the carb doesn’t move ahead enough to to clear the studs by about 1/4″. I am thinking that I have to remove the  air silencer next but the remote carb adjustment rods and connectors are preventing sufficient forward movement of the assembly to allow the carb base to clear the studs.

                  More head scratching ahead.

                    loosen the nuts  & pull away the carb  from the intake as you  turn the nuts with your  fingers.  you almost have to work both sides  to wiggle the  carb body  away from the intake

                    if the nust are to tight you can try  a drop of wd40

                    and yes…….  take off the   silencer.     just a few more bolts nothing elaborate.  disconnect linkage/hoses where u need to
