I want to disassemble the Speeditwin crankcase for inspection,
cleaning, and so I can better repair the keyway in the crankshaft.
It appears that I need to remove the piston on the port side so
I can get at the rod bolts on the starboard side. The piston wrist
pins have a “e” keeper on each end. The top ends of the wrist pins
are “open”, then bottom ends are closed.
Questions……
Are the wrist pins “floating” or a “pressed fit”?Does it matter in which direction they are removed?
Thanks!Prepare to be boarded!

December 10, 2019 at 8:40 pm #189145Frank, I hope you’re not asking me if they’re upside down, lol.
If the crankcase has ever been apart, I think it was long ago,
and not by me.
All the gaskets appear to be “factory”. Not sure what to use
for the cylinder gaskets. They’re fairly thick and fiberous,
and I suppose high temp.Prepare to be boarded!
December 10, 2019 at 8:51 pm #189146I would agree the pins are in upside down. The clips need to come out, then the pins should be pressed out. You can use that hammer in the photo, but the pistons MUST be supported so there is no load on the rods. Much better to use a piston pin tool which goes around the piston and presses the pin out slowly. Then you can get to the con rod bolts.

December 10, 2019 at 9:17 pm #189147Lessee, I think if you leave the pistons and w/pins and rods assembled as is but swap them to the opposite sides of the block, then the pins will be right side up. Right?
December 10, 2019 at 10:26 pm #189150Another disappeared post – HELP ! ! !
December 10, 2019 at 10:44 pm #189151Use a long screw driver bit next to the pistons to remove the connecting rod screws –
December 10, 2019 at 10:47 pm #189152Then swap pistons left to right. I will keep posts short
December 10, 2019 at 10:48 pm #189153A good time to deglaze the cylinders and install new piston rings
December 10, 2019 at 11:20 pm #189154Thanks for the replies! I will see if I can get at both connecting rod bolts without
pulling the piston pins, but on first glance, there didn’t appear easy with the
piston in the way.Curious as to “why” it matters which direction the wrist pin’s “open” end is
facing? Is it lubrication? Also still wondering which direction I tap out the wrist pins, if needed.
Thanks.
P.S.- Are rings still available for these? I’ll try to look up the part number
tomorrow. How about the cylinder gaskets?Prepare to be boarded!
