Hello All,
I recently acquired a 7.5hp Evinrude Fleetwin. It was my grandfather’s engine and my dad and uncle used it over 50 years ago. I’ve been thinking about restoring it and putting it on the back of a small wooden boat.
Can this motor be converted so I can use a steering wheel and throttle in the cockpit instead of the tiller?
Thanks,

1952 and earlier don’t have OOB connection points for throttle and tiller. I’m sure there’s a Rube Goldberg way of hooking the tiller up.
1953 and later (1958), you can use OMC standard (as in, the standard contemporary with the motors) tiller and throttle hookups.July 27, 2020 at 3:17 pm #210059It appears my tank is integral. I can still hear gas sloshing around when I move it.
Out of curiosity, where is the model # located? I looked, but couldn’t find it (although it is so dirty I’m sure I’m missing it).
Thanks,

1954-up require an adapter kit.

July 28, 2020 at 9:48 am #210143Are the model/serial on a number plate attached to the stern bracket? If so I don’t think mine is still there. I checked the whole clamp and still can’t find it.
Since my motor has the integral tank, dose that mean I have the newer one that can be adapted?
Thanks,

I assume this means I cannot convert it?

MikeYes, that means remote controls won’t work on that one. Well at least “real” ones won’t. Some people can get pretty creative.
July 28, 2020 at 4:53 pm #210173Thank you for all the replies. It’s unfortunate I can’t use a kit to convert it.
It sounds as though it is possible with a little engineering and fabrication.
Either way, I think I’ll go ahead and restore it. It will be a fun project.
Thanks,
MikeJuly 28, 2020 at 8:00 pm #210191Hi Frank, what does the adapter kit look like? My ’58 Fastwin has the requisite attachment points on the motor
– throttle bracket boss & throttle gear with cable attachment point
– gear shift bracket boss & ready-to-attach gear shift lever
– tiller pulley attachment point on front handle.Aside from the cable hold-downs that attach to the two bosses, what else is required?
