That’s right. An amplifier or three should be in every motorheads tool box. I’ll post some photos of one later so everyone will know what we mean.

Oh yeah, these carbs pictured are from a blown ’78 Evinrude 70 horse so they should be the cats meow!

visually they are identical to what’s sitting in front of me, always nice to compare apples to apples! 😎

OK, so you have the over ride spring figured out….But that choke solenoid spring link looks stretched out/shot, so the electric choke probably won’t work correctly. The replacement for that spring/link set up is a new plunger with a hole that accepts a solid link to the choke lever/pin.

On a side note – I picked up an ’88 70hp that at a casual glance appears to be a frankenmotor. The carbs look like they are off a 78 motor, and gearbox possible a 70’s gearbox too.

So this year I’m venturing into the 70hp motors. What should I know about respecting what can go where in terms of swapping parts, and what can’t?

I would say this frankenmotor is wrong as it sits, because the late production ’93 70hp I have sitting on my personal boat has adjustable low speed needles and some other stuff that creates idle headaches during initial calibration. I’m pretty sure that engineering ideas for fuel system components didn’t regress for OMC in the late 80’s 🙂
