Today the 8″ puller showed. Had applied heat in the past and, had let it set in penetrating oil. Threw the puller on, applied a good crank or two, tapped it on the side, and kaboom, she came off. Cleanest part of the engine is underneath the flywheel! I’ll degrease everything before I put it all back together. Cylinders are soaking in rust remover (doing those in a heat pro0f paint), new rings on the way, spark and fuel will be final pieces. My flywheel pulling was all part of my $35 engine breakdown.

        Thanks Ben,

I’ll give the puller another try.

          Update 2/12/2025

I had set removal the flywheel aside due to concerns of damage to the crankshaft using the double nut tool and smacking with a hammer.

Fast forwarding to last night, the flywheel has been removed without any damage using a harmonic flywheel puller & 10-30 thread bolts.

I’m convinced that by far this is the best methods to use.
