Just saw your pics…air and torch, followed by primer…then filler. I use Bondo Fiberglass Jelly. It will expand and not crack.

Thanks for the input. Will keep you posted, or else post an ad for "Wanted, Neptune Gas Tank".
Prepare to be boarded!
well, at least you know how to do it the next time ! LOL 🙂
Well, I’m fairly happy with my results…… after all, the tank didn’t blow up in my face, and it’s about two table spoons from full liquid capacity! It went from needing 1/2" on bondo on the back of the tank, to a skim. I couldn’t do much with the small deep dent on the end of the tank, but did improve the general area somewhat. Suppose that dent would have been a good candidate for the slide hammer and torch, but thought I’d quit while I was ahead! Thanks for all the help and tips. Much appreciated! Wow! I would pleased as punch with that result if it were my first attempt at a tank. It looks a heck of a lot better. Well done, Buccaneer!
Thanks Archangel. It won’t be one of those polished aluminum motor stand queens, but I’ll be happy if it runs when I’m done!
Buccaneer,
Nice work. And you learned a new trade in the process.
I would like to say "thank" to tubs for the fantastic advice 💡 bright and clear with good photos I certainly will try this once with a nasty tank and see how that goes before I destroy a better one for a coming project
