and another question about a single line fuel fitting

How do these parts go together to make this fitting complete? the black needle thing just slips right through and won’t stay in place. Is the o-ring too small? I think I have the pieces laid out properly, but they just don’t seem to want to stay together. I don’t really want to buy another one. I know they’re cheap but so am I and I’m tired of buying crap……sorry capitalism/free enterprise system. 🙁

shaft with the O-ring end first into the threaded end first then the spring then the cup then the fitting.

The shaft with the o-ring just slips right through.

then it has the wrong O-ring. the O-ring seals till the connector is put on
