Looking for help with a Year/Model #; I’ve looked all over this motor and can’t find any tags, or stamped model #s. All I could find was a stamped # on the side of the poppet valve carb, "195074", and a cylinder casting # "01930" on the right cylinder. It has a narrow prop, (brass). I’m thinking Evinrude built Sea King, either a 3/3.3 or 5 HP, poss ’40/41/42.

Model # and serial # are stamped on brass welch plug. It is on front view of one of the cylinders.

I would guess a model 8816 Sea King (Evinrude model 371) Some parts interchangeable with the Evinrude Fisherman. . . 🙂

Looks to me like 1937-38 Sea King 4.2hp, model 499.

thanks to Oldelto and Hiram1914; behind the tank/front cowling, behind the carb, under the ‘patina’, is the welsh plug! However, Mr Hunn’s book lists 499 for both ’37/’38 4.2hp and ’39 5hp. Which of the evinrude Fisherman or Lightwins of that time period would most likely have the compatible parts? I definitely need a new flywheel, the keyway is ground to almost nonexistent.

The list I have shows your five horse Sea King as being built in 1937, ’38, and ’39. From the serial numbier I would say early 1939. My parts books show that part number 194570 Flywheel being used on the Evinrude Fisherman from 1937 through 1939, and on the Elto Lightwin from 1937 through 1941. Likewise they use the same coil, breaker points and capacitor (condenser). This is the Elto. . . 😀

Here’s a ’39 five horse for comparison. Your motor is missing the spark plug covers.
