I have a local historical society asking to display a couple of my old Evinrudes this summer in their museum window. I’m leaning towards lending a 1935 fisherman and a 1947 sportwin. I like the fisherman because of the old square tank look (it’s the only square tank I have) and the sportsman because of its great lines (and design by the Brooks Stevens firm). I have other literature on the motors that I can include if they want it in the display. I think I’ll use photocopies, though, pending an understanding of duration and sun angles in the display window.

I’m not sure what kind of stands were used back in ’35 and ’47, but figure one or more of you will know. I have wooden stands that I have made but would prefer to use correct period stands. The motors are original and not perfect, so I won’t be too particular about the stands, whether I use my cypress ones or vintage ones.

Anyone have literature, photos, or other info on the stands that were around in ’35 and ’47 to share? Follow up question, know where one or the other might be available for a reasonable cost?

      Thanks,

      Dale

They sold a cast Iron stand in the ’30s that was continued into the ’40s. In the early ’40s a smaller folding stand was added. . . 😀

Those water skiis and tow lines were fairly expensive for the time period, but I’d sure like to order about a dozen of those display stands for $4.50 each!!

The folding stands could also be found with the Johnson name on them.

Thanks all, especially Gary in Tampa…what a resource you are! Now I know what to look for, but I suspect those are few and far between and a lot more than original prices even accounting for inflation. 1940 dollars to 2017 equivalent prices would be about $75 and $175. I guess that the prices folks get today aren’t too far off considering inflation and how few of these items are still around.

So, I found a 1940s era stand and now I’m wondering what it might be worth. If you have an opinion that you are willing to share on what would be reasonable for the pictured stand, please PM me or just reply. I know that the real answer is it is worth what I am willing to pay, but I have no experience with stands like this. Thanks.
