Does anyone have a copy of the April 1987 edition of the Antique Outboarder? On page 11 there should be an article regarding a 1935 Britannia. The article may have been written by Art Doling. I would very much appreciate a copy of the article. There may also be some information in an article titled “British Outboards” from October 1997 issue on page 47. Any help is appreciated.

I have a ton of back copies from an older members collection. I haven’t gotten into all of them yet, but was looking at some 1986 copies the other day. Should have those 1987s. Let me look.

Outstanding! Thanks, Chris. Adding this information to the booklet oldelto gave me I have the history of the company pretty well documented. Now to find Art Doling’s Britannia so I can copy the paint and decals.

You know, this is the reason right here to belong to the AOMCI. I’ve been beating the bushes for two months trying to find any information about this uncommon outboard and low and behold an article published by the AOMCI 30 years ago pops up. Who else will document the history of these mechanical wonders? Without the AOMCI and it’s members the history of this motor would probably be lost forever. Once I complete the restoration of my Britannia I will write an article and update what we’ve learned.

A friend of mine has the Brittania Middy. I have a nearly identical motor labelled as British Motor Company.

Hi Bill. BMB was marked on the flywheel of newer model Britannia Lightwins. So you have the same motor as mine. It’s just a little newer. The company was British Motor Boat manufacturing company. Do either of the Britannia’s you know have the original paint and decals?

I’ll try to get some pics of mine later today. My friend’s is buried.

Here’s the pics of mine – I’ll try and get some pics of my friends next time I visit him. I don’t remember a decal on his, and the only other thing I remember is that his has removable heads, hexagonal. Maybe dark blue, but he may have painted it himself. Mine is gray with no evidence of a decal. I had forgotten that mine says "Britannia Middy" on the tag.
