I am going to look at a 1947 Goodyear Sea-Bee tomorrow. Not sure what size, but I think the guy who has it used it on a canoe, so likely small. He also mentioned it was a Gale made motor and he has a new spare impeller.
Just wondering if there is anything I should be aware of as far as parts availability regarding ignition, etc.
I have a couple of those. To my surprise, the coils were good on both and with a little points cleaning I had spark on them. My biggest hurdle with them has been the fuel shutoffs. Both of mine leak badly and I can not seem to get an answer as to what was used for packing material on the shutoffs. Hone up on your carb float building skills as well. The cork floats are usually bad. Some guys use a Merc float in them, but I whittled my own and doped them. They are in my opinion one of the nicest looking motors ever and can be decent runners when tuned as chris P mentioned.
For those with a leaky fuel Petcock valve, the packing is made out of leather. I replaced one about 6-7 years ago, and someone was still making them from leather. I probably got it through iShopMarine, if memory serves.
