I recently acquired a motor that I found had a sheared flywheel key. Up until now, I haven’t had to replace many of these, but I have noticed in many cases the flywheel key is pretty well stuck inside the crank recess. Any tricks for getting these out without damaging the crank taper?
Im with Dave on the punch, but I grab the piece with side cutters (dykes down south) and lever it out against the crank. I use the same technique for pins, dowels, etc.
Worked great, thanks guys. I’m guessing the reason you strike the bottom of the woodruff key is to avoid accidentally missing the key with the punch, hitting the taper on the crank, and screwing things up….
