I have a 1976 25hp tiller Evinrude that needs a going through so I can get on the water in the next couple weeks. I just finished building my skiff and haven’t had any time to address the motor. I think it needs a new impeller, the tilt mechanism freed up a bit(fairly stiff), and a carb cleanout and maybe a couple other odds and ends. I just have no time to deal with it with work etc and also wouldn’t mind if someone a little more qualified did the work.
Thanks for any help or leads out there.
Frankie
There is a great dealer in Barrington, Stanley’s Marine. They are not cheap, but will be honest and you can count on the work being top notch.

I am always impressed by how you guys jump right in and offer up help. Thanks a bunch. Do you know how I get hold of Gary B? It looks like I’m about 45 minutes from Ashaway which is definitely worth a drive if I can meet a guy who is willing do some work on this engine and is a great guy as you mention.
Gary’s number is 401-377-8837. Gary is surely an excellent choice, just thought you might be closer to Barrington.
Most shops are pretty busy this time of year, so be sure to ask about repair times. Gary will be honest with you about the condition of the engine and needed repairs. Parts and labor adds up quickly, so be honest with him as to what you are willing to spend when you bring in the engine.
Fleetwin, thanks a ton. I’m going to call Gary tomorrow morning. You’re right about costs of labor and parts adding up but when one comes across a decent Evinrude that is from 1976 which I don’t consider very old it seems worth looking into if it can be brought up to speed with some reasonable measures.
