I look forward to seeing an all Australia outboard thread. The Rip Tide Sportsman is one motor I would love to have in my collection. I’ve never seen or heard of one on this side of the globe. Probably very few ever made it over here, if any.

There aren’t very many of the Riptide Sportsman motors around here in Australia – only a few in museums and private collections…basically the same story with the Anzani Minors over here – there’s not a lot of them around.
I myself only have a Riptide Fisherman that I am currently restoring. Most of the Australian motors I know the whereabouts of are either here in Aus or in New Zealand, and those motors are mostly Riptides and Sea Sprites (both mentioned in the article I wrote for the Jan 17 Outboarder with pictures). The Cromac Cadet is also a rarer outboard here in Australia… hopefully if a specific Australian Outboard Thread is made more information will be provided on all these motors.
Cheers

I am pretty sure there is one in the Netherlands, only I cannot remember where and who owns it. !!!
( not many collectors here , so it can be a senior problem , oeps ! )
most Britannia’s here are from the 50 ties and not so rare, I think I have four in the storage.
this is a nice one , except the tank .
Homemade ? but……., what ever , better than nothing
.Senior problem I give that a big tick.
What is the problem with the tank?
It is a direct copy of original except in aluminium (Correct Spelling) ?

December 20, 2016 at 10:29 am #49470OK motor arrived nicely packaged.
Good compression but very dry internally so the tank mount stud out and filled the cases up with 16:1 making sure piston just covering transfer port. It is holding the lot as nothing dripping out last hours.
These have ball race mains further supported by bronze bushes top and bottom. The bushes do the crankcase sealing. Somewhat finicky if doing a crank rebuild last few that I have done. This one just feels "Correct" which is something cool aye.
I made another good choice via what Ebay communication with seller allowed. I have all of missing doodads.

In your own words as well
a direct copy of original, meaning …..homemade
and as I told you, nothing wrong with that, better then no tank at all
btw, good looking Anzani Minor you got for Christmas
😉

Fascinating little motor. It’s the first time I’ve had a chance to peek under the cover. I’ve never seen one actually run. (Except for the Tube vidio). . . 😉
December 31, 2016 at 7:20 am #49993Update.
Flywheel was an absolute sod to remove. Someone had greased the taper and it had gone hard as brick. Plenty heat and about 24hrs under constant tension with warming and cooling cycles during waking hours. It ended up coming apart with a very disconcerting snap! Thought I had pulled the centre out of the wee Wipac Banta-Mag. 😯
Is all good now with everything cleaned up and checked.
Coil reads between 3K – 4K and 3 – 5 Ohm. 😎
Points are cool both open and closed. 😎
Condenser is very erratic but averages 0.62mF Totally 🙁 I will replace with something 0.1 – 0.2
Broke a head bolt as not enough heat first go………I will be more attentive in 2017. No probs broken bit out.
As many pics that will fit so far….
Some pics
So many edits because my poor old lappy is short on RAM.
Next the carby.
This is all too good so will not be splitting cases or removing barrel.
