Is there a source for the Atom Ignition Module? I know they are no longer produced. Any old stock available or replacement brands?
April 17, 2021 at 2:19 pm #236533…ya can make your own..search ‘Debe atom’ and ya will find all the info ya need to make one.
April 17, 2021 at 7:37 pm #236542Tried to look it up Debe Atom, nothing. Tried others too. I remember seeing a diagram how to build but forget the topic name. Basic transistor switching triggered by a magnetic pulse. Could almost be done with a dallington type transistor. That is 2 transistors in 1 package. The first is a light duty & it triggers the “load” bearing transistor. Designed years ago, in fact Ford used it for a while & had X amount of the transistors made for production & can’t be found now,

I found DeBe on this forum. Really just wanted to buy some, but may have to get my electronis nephew to assist in making some. looks like he reversed engineered the Atom red module.

The drawing shows the15KE200A in the circuit but assembly it’s not there MOSORB, metal oxide semi conductor & forget what the ORB means, then in the original drawing it shows a diode, the one with the silver stripe???? I think now they are one & the same, but different than a regular diode with the wings on the straight line. Been a long time.

April 18, 2021 at 1:48 am #236559It sure would be nice to find a stash of the RED Atoms.I never had one go bad unlike the Novas.

April 23, 2021 at 10:25 am #236818I was making my red atoms and some of them are still in my motors. I have used the nova2s also if you put new OMC coils in the motor they hold up at least for me.
If you notice they only have one wire that connects to them I like that set-up. You connect the wire from the module to the wire that normally goes from the ignition coil to the points and you remove the condenser from the set-up. And you mount the module with a screw to the engine block/magneto plate. If you connect them and they do not give you spark all you have to do is swap the ground wire to the coil and wire it to the module and ground the wire that normally goes to the points. Basically you are reversing those wires and the reason you are doing that is because the polarity of the actual motor block can be positive or negative depending on how the actual ignition coil is grounded to the engine block. On a points system without a battery it does not matter if the engine block has a positive or negative ground to produce spark.
Most the time on OMC motors the wires do not need reversing on other brands they may need reversing.
Hope that helps.
