FYI  Fisher Pierce also built Boston Whaler boats in Rockland Massachusetts.

That reminds of the time years ago (sometime in the mid 1990s) when my fishing buddy and I pulled into a gas station to fuel up his boat.  In front of us at the pumps was 2 guys with a 1960s vintage Boston Whaler with a Bearcat 55 on it.   The driver said he had bought the rig brand new and said the motor had never given him any problems.   It was obvious he took excellent care of both the boat and motor as they were in immaculate condition, even after some 30 years of use at that time.   I’ve haven’t seen the Bearcat 55 and seen only one Homelite 55 since that time.

bob n outbdnut2, I always liked the look of those Bearcat 55’s.  It’s to bad the lower units weren’t up to the task of handling 55 hp.  At that time OMC was producing there big 75hp motors.  Whatever you think of the 75 omc’s they were a tractor when it comes to pulling.  Their gear case held up great.  Imagine that bearcat with it’s measly 55 ponies using a omc gear case!   They might have changed the whole outboard business.

        just a though
