Anyone know why the 375783 clutch dog style changed?

From this with a raised ridge….

They have the same width, and such, just the minor difference.

I know the first one is from a ’55 RD for sure. I am repairing one for a friend. I only have the later style ones NOS. I ASSume they will swap back and forth with no issues, but have usually had enough NOS ones that are identical to swap out. Any I gotchas here I need to know, or will the later style be ok into the 55 RD without an issue.

I have no answer about why the change, other than probably easier to make and thus, cheaper. I swapped the original with the newer style in my 54 RD-16, and it works perfectly.
