What year or years and HP did Evinrude use the Blue pull start handles, were they short type or did they have the tail n them that the rope went through. I’m looking into having some of these made for the Constantine meet. Pictures would be nice if you can post them. Thanks Rich NJ

If you have some made I’d like to have one for my ’59 Fastwin. Mine is all taped up. It has a tail, but it’s different than the tails that pass thru the rope plate. I’ll try to.get a picture.of mine tonight and post it if I can. Hopefully that will help, but it does have quite a bit of tape on it. The tail has a cylindrical stop on it that spaces the T part of the handle away from the rope plate so it is easy to grasp. I’m not sure which years used them but my ’59 is blue. Don’t know if all the bread box years used them or not. I’m sure someone knows.

I recall there being two different color blue pull-start handles for the late 50s Evinrudes. There was the dark navy blue ones used on the 1958 (and possibly ’57) models, then the baby blue ones on the ’59 and ’60 motors. The navy ones held up okay, but the baby blue ones deteriorated terribly, they simply crumbled away like old cheese! I think there are also long and short tales on the baby blue ones, depending on the horsepower motor they are attached to.

The pull handle on my ’59 Fastwin is definitely not the baby blue color. It is a dark navy blue as can be seen in the pictures. Let me know if I can get a better picture of any particular part of it. It’s hanging on my truck bed rack now getting ready to go North for vacation then to Constantine.

Big Rich asked me to post the picture he sent me of the handles he made. Black, Dark Blue, and Light Blue.
