I was pondering the idea of using the old style Briggs and Stratton condensers
(with the spring that holds the wires on it’s post)
in an Eisemann magneto, that originally had the terminal post
atop to connect the coil and points wire, and was wondering if anyone
knew what mfd they are rated for?
I’m fresh out of .22 capacitors and thought maybe the B&S would
be an alternative when you want to push the “Easy” button!
Of course, one would still have to rig something up to hold
the condenser in the mag plate mount hole.
      Thanks.

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen one of those. Anyhoo, here’s what merc-o-tronic says

Thanks Frank! Not sure if the local hardware store has those kits anymore.
I know they still had them a couple of years ago when my wood splitter
          died.
I bet it would work to “un-solder” original condenser hold down / mount brackets,
then epoxy them to a Briggs condenser.

If you epoxy the bracket on the condenser you wont have a ground.

According to Merc-O-Tronic Model 88 Magneto Analyzer Manual
                page 31 Kiekhaefe-Mercury part # 396 – 650 Eisemann part # 24235
mfd rating is between .19 and .23
I checked Eisemann 72H Magneto and found Eisemann Part # 24235
                stamped on base of condenser.

On line list shows Eisemann 62B and 72H use same Eisemann Part #
H24-235 = part # 24235. It may be possible to find good NOS or
good used condensers. A common magneto ,but, 1950 was 70 years
ago, so finding a good one may be a lot to hope for.
Now I need to build a condenser tester.

Thanks Louis. No B&S tune-up kits in the local hardware, but I have two coming,
plus some caps from Digi-key, so I’ll get something rigged up.
I think my mag plate said Eisemann 62B. I have the Merctronic data, but
didn’t think about it showing Briggs data.

Echlin condesors are listed in manual. Some are .18 to .21
Auto parts store might have or be able to cross reference
Eisemann 62B coil is listed but I could not find condensor.
                    B & S condensers ( 2 listed) are rated .16 to .26
Metal Products is shown as primary user of 62B
Check part # It may be same as used on 72H or not,
I have an Eisemann 72H that I should get at. Your post may
                    serve as a prod.

Yes, we’re talking Metal Products product. An OMC condenser could
be rigged up, but you’d have to bolt all the wires together with
a little bolt and nut, and tape it up, as opposed to attaching them
to the nice post on top of the Eisemann condenser.

open your condenser, gut it out, install a linear capacitor of 600v and your value. just use the can to mount it
