I picked up a Caille today. The rope sheave has Caille Motor Company Detroit on it. The only marking I can find is stamped in the transom bracket s/n 378. The tank is painted red and has a decal that says Caille across the back. I can’t find much info in the old outboard book.
      Thanks
      Alan

you’re starting to describe a Caille model 79. Single cylinder, I presume? Small Tillotson carburetor mounted on the port-side of the powerhead? Pictures help immensely. Oh wait, there they are. Yeah I’d say Caille model 79. Any photos of the exhaust pipe?

Nice find. Cailles don’t come up too often.
I like the Cailles motors especially the opposed twins.
I agree with T2 it looks like a model 79 from the early 30s.

Here’s a photo of the exhaust. No pipe.

Thanks for the link. Model 79 it is. Looks like I am missing the exhaust tube. I am guessing it will be impossible to find one. Other than the tube it is complete.

Nice, the left you the thumbscrew that keeps the exhaust pipe in place, but took the pipe!

With that low of a serial number, it would be the early flimsy round tube that is squished at the bottom so that the underwater opening is oval, best way I can come up with to describe it. Somebody will have pictures.

MEanwhile, my eyeballs are going in circles trying to figure out what that transom bracket in the background belongs to….. the bracket with the five holes in the quadrant for tilt angle adjustment….

                    Best,
