Calling out all Johnson 1931 XR 55 and VR 55 owners or anyone with informatio

I have a VR 55 and an XR 55 crank case, I have cylinders that I found with the proper cylinder heads for the VR 55 and here is the question, there were two little areas machined out on the crankcase side of the VR 55 cylinder that I have, both the matching crankcases have the same area machined out to match, the XR and the VR I was told that the XR 55 cylinder had the same areas machined out at the factory and that it was done by Johnson , can anybody confirm this information
