      Tom & everyone,

I researched the potting material & found a excellant insulating material with a very high dielectric constant, insulating value. It is insulating varnish are resins like epoxies or alkyds used to protect high voltage frtom failure.  These systems have  a very high dielectric property. Go to MG chemicals on line to stop insulating failures. The epoxy you are using has no dielectric constant rating is why they faul.

          Crosbyman,

I got the idea from my Dad. Super corona dope eas made for old black & white t.v. sets for the scanning bean in the cathode ray tubes, picture tubes. The output of the flyback trasnformer, scanning ray hi voltage would arc to ground & the picture tube would not function. Go to other pages @ MG for products on Potting compounds for very high dielectric (insulating) materials made to incapsulate components. A great site for us!!

I do remember  fixing one or two flyback transformers … (in my early days) the main problem aside from arching was  oscillation causing a hear piercing high pitch tone .

Flybacks  had  20-25kv  for the tv tube   so any  corona dope  will fix   an oldy  🙂
