Just wondering what everyone uses for cleaning carbs. Does pine-sol work for really grubby or varnished cabs? I am trying to avoid really nasty chemicals if possible

http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/301984923735Set it in the basket and wait 24 hours. Rinse with hot water. Really gunky ones take 48 hours. Never even had to scrub them
July 2, 2016 at 2:51 pm #39461I now only use Pine Sol, for about 5 years now. Have not found a carb that I couldn’t clean. I normally let them soak for a day or two. Rinse out with hot water. Then blow out with compressed air.

July 2, 2016 at 6:21 pm #39471I have used OMC Engine Tuner sprayed into a aluminum foil tray to soak overnight. Blew out with compressed air when done.
You gotta wear gloves and yep ,it’s some nasty stuff. So in regards to using non toxic nasty stuff, this dosn’t fit the bill at all."Some people want to know how a watch works, others just want to know what time it is"

July 3, 2016 at 10:49 am #39515I use Mercury Power Tune on all carbs, followed by a good rinsing of B12 Chemtool carb cleaner, or Gumout, etc. The Power Tune will instantly dissolve varnish and old fuel. Most carbs can be cleaned in a very short time. For me, I usually don’t have time to soak them overnight. All stinky stuff though. Use gloves with good ventilation. :ugeek:
July 3, 2016 at 1:35 pm #39523If using Pine Sol, what strength or dilution is best? Do you heat it in say, a crock pot?
July 3, 2016 at 4:49 pm #39528I start it out straight, add a bit of water now and then as it dilutes, until it is pretty dirty and I start fresh. It works very well, not sure why you would want to use all these chemicals with gloves and chemical filters in a half face respirator for.
The only negative thing I would say about it, is that if you leave the brass components submerged for a while, they darken a bit, but that can be polished off after if you forget about the parts for a week in the soak bin.
