clamp screw cup is loose

any neat trick to rivet the cup on the clampscrew ? … one of mise has worked itself loose

the angle is very narrow to hammer it back in place

You can drill/thread into the screw, then install a bolt to hold the cup on.

I have done this on several. Works great too. I have ground the head of the bolt a bit so that it doesn’t dig into the transom when tightened.

If you drill them out and tap them 12 -24 like the later ones, you can use a flat head machine screw with a collar on it if you don’t have the proper OMC screws.

I will try but I am afraid my machining skills and tools are at a rudimentary level compared to the art work seen here !!

Mercury Service Tools (several sizes) were made for replacing or tightening loose clamp washers. They work as advertised. Some things are easier over on the Dark Side.

I forgot to mention the rivets holding the handle on. They are made of 3/16" aluminum rod, centre drilled and mushroomed over a bit so they wont fall out. Otherwise I just use roll pins. Another thing, keep a 7/16" wrench handy at all times while searching for motors. It will come in handy for removing the factory cups and screws from newer motors destined for the scrap pile! 😀
