I have a 1935 Evinrude Fisherman that needs a coil.  Any idea of where to find, or how to repair, or replace?

      thanks.

Paul, that looks like it may be a good candidate for the retro fit of the very available “surplus military” two post coil (ebay for about $20) .  Maybe someone here has done that… stay tuned

Here is a link to a slide show I made using the OMC style coils in an early A close to 20 years ago, before the surplus coil was available. https://youtu.be/gfRG_Zz_0gk  . Search eBay for  – Coil   P/N MFR-61689 P/N 97403-13206E014  – for the coil Joe is speaking of. I believe someone posted here that they substituted this coil in an early Johnson. I suspect it was a lot easier than what I did.  Are you sure that coil is bad? They are usually good . How are you testing it? Tubs

A "Boat House Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

there was only a couple strands of wire going into the coil, the rest were broken off.  when i went heat and clean the solder off the two wire stands broke off.  not sure if a person can take the coil apart and redo the wire?  The other side seems to be ok.  I have not tested further not that there are no wires coming out of one side.  Paul

Yes, that is the military coil , last I saw $15…. These coils have saved many motors. The issue is modifications to the laminations of either the coil and/or the magneto armature shoes to make the thing fit. For that little $ , go ahead and buy one and check it out you can get a feeling about how ease or difficulty of making the fix.
