My 50 Firestone 5 hp has the Phelon magneto # F189J
      with condensers that mount horizontal.
Anyone have info on what mfd. rating the condensers are?
I looked at some Merctronic info I had, but I could not find
what I wanted. The info listed Scott Atwater’s of the same vintage
as my Firestone, but they appear to use the Wico magnetos with the vertical
      mount condensers.
      Thanks, Bucc

If they are like 99% of all other marine, motorcycle, automotive and small-engine condensers, they’re 0.22uF @ 630V (AC). The voltage rating is approximate, but 630V should be a very acceptable figure.

My Merc-o-Tronic manual gives the wico ratings listed by wico part number. I see numbers in the list anywhere between 0.1 to 0.34 MFD. What is your Wico number (stamped on the end of the condenser)?

Don’t these mags use the same Phelon coils as used in Mercs? If so, the ratings are .14 to .18 uF or .15 to .19 uF.

Coils are not like Mercury’s. Didn’t look on the actual condenser
yet to see if there’s any numbers, but good idea.
              Here’s my mag………

                Mumbles,
I agree, both used the same caps.

Looked at one of the condensers today and there were no markings
or numbers of any kind on them. Found a old Prestolite chart
showing my Firestone takes their condenser 2-5035…..
                  not that "that" helps, lol.
