I am in the UK, and some years ago I owned a Coventry Victor SS8  4-stroke outboard.  It was a horizontally opposed twin cylinder side-valve, and started via a starting handle.  My brochure for this engine shows that there was also an SS6 with slightly smaller bores.  I have had an E-bay search running for well over ten years and not one of these has ever turned up!!  They were being manufactured from about 1948 into the 1960s — but possibly in very small numbers!!

Do you ever come across them in USA?  Someone in Greece has currently listed a pre-war brochure for a whole range of Coventry Victor engines and the outboards go up to 750cc, which must have been an exceedingly heavy outboard.  The brochure claims that the prop is driven by chain — really?!!

Can anyone shed any light on these Coventry Victor outboard engines?

I  remember a club member that had one maybe 40 years ago but don’t  even remember his name any longer. I had photos of it and thought it was one of the neatest engines I had ever seen.
