Just got done working on a motor for a guy and also replaced the hose and o-rings in the fuel fitting. Besides having what I think are the fat Sierra’s in there, he also didn’t realize what damage he was doing to the inside of the retainer. Also found the broken off tip of the nail or dental pick or whatever it was he was using in there. Of course if he had Frank’s/Richard’s Fuel Connector O-Ring Tool that wouldn’t have happened.
P.S. This is not a paid endorsement! 😆

Perhaps Richard should put those pictures on his website

I smoothed out the scratches with some very fine sandpaper, installed new o-rings and tried out the tank yesterday on the boat and didn’t see any leaks. They may need to be replaced a little sooner than usual but for now they’re ok.

Yeah I cringe when I see advice being given to pick out the old o rings. I have no idea why you wouldn’t simply bang out the whole assembly. I too have Franks tool, love it.

There is a guy on another forum that swears by picking out the shift rod o ring from beneath the brass retainer on 50s OMCS. I would love to see that one day!

Anybody that fixes anything is going to have to
try and undo what someone thought they
could do without any previous experience or the
proper tools. Whether it’s a hobby or the way
you make your living it comes with the territory.
I have a friend that is a mason. He once told me
“I’ve made a good living fixing other peoples
                    Mistakes.“
