      That QD-15 I have, I’m keeping my eyes open for a new powerhead in case I can’t salvage the block and head. I’m wondering if the powerheads are similar enough to swap?
      I looked up the part numbers for each, and there are differences but I’m not sure if those represent internal changes, mounting flange differences, or something completely different

      ’54 is 376252 for the crankcase/cylinder assembly, while ’55 is 376335
      I got the ’54 numbers from a PDF a member gave me, for the ’55 I got them from http://www.marineengine.com/parts/vinta … 700001.htm

        No, they will not interchange. Different crank splines, different base gaskets. Some internals are swappable if needed, but not as a complete unit.;

          I would think it would be easier to find the 55 power head as a replacement. I could be wrong on this, but I believe the 55 was the first year for the handier clamshell hood. give doug penn a call or post an ad here. they’re out there.

          EDIT: sorry asa, I was off by a year. I thought you had the later 1955 model.

            Thanks Chinewalker. That’s about what I figured. Internals and all on mine are good, it’s just the block and head that are giving me problems right now.

              The 54 being a 1 year design makes swapping almost impossible. You’re best off to find an ugly parts motor and scavenge a whole 54 powerhead

                The ’54 uses a two piece base gasket so it’s obviously a different casting than the ’55 and later. All the other gaskets are the same though. I have a NOS 54 QD gasket set here if you ever need one.
