      are 3/16 brass “pins”    cut  from a 3/16 brass rod   ok as drive/shear pins  ?

        I cut  up some  1.380 inch pins…. metal  seems stiff enough and brittle enough after a few nicks with cutting pliers.  🙂

        I’ll just tape 2-3  and cotter pins on the handle 🙂

          I’m so glad you asked ‘cuz I had the same question about my ’56 FD-10.  Now to scrounge for 3/16″ rod!  LOL

              I had a broken shear pin on a mercury Mark 7  when I was a kid. I did a McGuyer on it. took the 3 pieces of shear pin rearranged them and it got me home fine

                CDN $4.99/foot for  brass rods.  with 2 feet I have enough to last me till I croak .

                      snip and grind the ends flats.. works ok     1.380 inches fits perfect in the prop slot

                        I use a tubing cutter to cut them.

                        I put the rod in a drill and use a mini tubing cutter. Cut 3 or 4 in no time.    

                         

                         

                        A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
