Benj, you have received lots of good points on 2 line tank and if so is your wish to stay 2 line … great.
should want to go single line…… it can be done with success. Decision is yours Here is what I did , sold the 5.5 and my friend loves it… great motors
1- find & change the side connector to a single line one
2- Pull the carb & the back plate to fill one OF TWO PULSE CHANNELS (SEE VIDEO) I used the right side one
3- Remove the small check valve (keep all parts in case you want to return to original)
4- reinstall the plate and carb
5- Get a pulse pump like Briggs& Stratton, KHoler-Mikuni round pump used on John Deere tractors and the likes
6- install the pump as you see fit ..check for cowl clearance
7-run a vacum pulse line to the pressure barb behind the carb
8- run a fuel line from the side connector to the pump inlet nipple
9- run a fuel line from pump outlet nipple to the side fuel filter bowl feeding the carb
10- tye wrap or clamp all fuel lines and pulse line nipples
11- done … go fishingyour call.

November 18, 2020 at 5:37 am #221119In the span of about 3 weeks, I’ve gone from having one outboard(68 JW-23M) to now having 3!(2nd purchase was an ebay deal on a JW-12)
Last Friday I acquired a 1959 5.5hp Evinrude Golden Jubilee Fisherman. The previous owner didn’t know that it used a dual line tank, and sold it to me with a 6 gallon single line tank. I’ve started to rebuild the carb, and since I have the intake plate off, that’s how I came to the dilemma:
Is it cheaper/easier to just switch to a single line set-up now, or somehow find a dual line tank that won’t break the bank?
The motor is in decent shape cosmetically, but nowhere close to showroom new. I plan on keeping all of the parts in case I or someone else restores it down the road.
Thanks in advance,
-Ben
At the rate you’re acquiring outboards, you will soon have a second and a third engine that were made to run with a two-line tank! Might as well just face it. You’re hooked, now. Find a proper pressure tank, because you will need it!
Long live American manufacturing!

Post your location as that may help someone steer you to a good tank.

I’m in the Fort Wayne, Indiana area.
Thanks again to everyone for the input! I don’t plan on a 4th or 5th motor as my wife is already giving me the side eye about the ones I have! hahahah!

Your wife should appreciate you having a hobby that keeps you out of bars!
