          This is from the June ’52 Consumers Union evaluation of outboards. They didn’t mess around when the went to test these ! Only two survivors

              Further “follow up” would have been interesting on these failed motors,
              such as “why” the Martin lost compression.
              If Consumer Reports did outboard comparison testing every year,
              I wonder if that data is available anywhere, as it’s interesting and fun
              to read.

                    The fact that they held onto the original paperwork all these years, and the cosmetic appearance of the motor, probably tells you they really took great care of it! Great find!
