I’m working on a 1929 Fastwin (H10) and would like to know if the cylinders were painted when new. Mine appear non painted with a light coat of rust. What is recommended, maybe a cast iron paint ?

They may have been copper plated when new.
        I can check my 29 2H Fastwin.

Yes, copper plated , presumably to prevent rust.

If you haven’t checked the pistons or the flywheel hub, you probably should. Pistons are often cracked or broken. If the flywheel is one of the early ones with the aluminum hub, be sure the keyway is in good shape before you run it.’
