Hello
I picked up this nice old Johnson that is missing the "dome" cover on the flywheel which would normally have the model and serial number. A friend told me it’s a model K but I’m not sure what year or specific model #.
You may not be able to see it but the flywheel is stamped K 9645 on top where it would have been covered by said model dome piece.
Is this possibly a model 45 or is that just a coincidence?
The motor is also missing the tiller handle and I’ll put in a wanted ad once I’m sure what it is. If anyone has these parts for sale please contact me.
Thanks for your help.
Doug
Underneath the cylinders there should be a number stamped in the crankcase near the area where the cylinder meets the crankcase. That is the true serial number. Once you find that, post it and we can give you the year. But, judging by the lack of underwater exhaust and compression release, I’d say it is a K-40,1928.Those are great running motors with surprising get up and go. You’ll have a blast running it.
Thanks for the tip about the serial number. As luck would have it the number was not carefully struck, must have been built on a Monday. The only number clearly struck at least to me is the first one, which is a 6. The others are up for grabs.
Does jive with the year being 1928 though.
