chas56x, thanks. I was hoping for a clear shot of the original so I could try to make up something for a motor I have. The one from American Outboards is OK, but not the same as the one in the photo.
I wonder what other changes were made in the decals of the early outboards. There were certainly many decal changes in the ads I have seen in the late ’20s and ’30s. . . 😕

All ruddertwins can run in reverse. The anti-tilt reverse latch came out in 1927 on the J model. It is a glob of aluminum on the starboard side on the front that can be pivoted over towards the port side, blocking the motor from tilting when running in reverse. One fellow ran his ruddertwin in reverse accidentally and promptly lost his prop nut and prop in the river. Perhaps the nut was loose?
