I have just been asked by a fellow for help in getting his father’s old ELTO rudder twin running. I don’t have experience with the Attwood Kent timers, but I know to use extreme caution. I’m going through old “Outboarders” looking for tech articles on the subject. Any leads to which issues? or info here on the forum… so far no “search” is helping.

Here is a slide show I did on the timer some time ago.

April 14, 2022 at 9:14 pm #258282Tubs, thanks again… I got a look at the Elto Rudder Twin (model J) today. The timer is in need of help. The bushing is crumbled, and the strap ( link) is missing.
Did you make the brass bushing from scratch? How about a new link? I haven’t called Art DeKalb yet to see if he has castings?
Interesting story with this motor, belongs to a fellow that I just met at a restaurant today, turns out he is a neighbor. The motor was his fathers, been in safe storage for 40 years. Very much wants to get it running , use it and have fun with the grandkids. This is one of the few motors, with which I’m unfamiliar, Fortunately there are other friends that are. The motor looks like it’s in good shape, the coil is good… ran the last time that “dad” ran it!
All in all , I think that we will gain a new and enthusiastic club member.

I know Art has made them in the past. Also
Doug Penn has offered them but I believe he
gets them from Art. You may get a response
from someone reading this thread as I have
gotten them from different people who have made
them over the years. I recently gave someone the
prints to make their own but I don’t know if they
have any interest in making more. Art may
reproduce the strap as well.

April 15, 2022 at 10:48 am #258316Thanks Tubs, I was about to start making them myself, patterned off the crumbled bushing. If you have the prints for the link and bushing, much appreciate it if you can send.
Here or to my e-mail … I can send a PM
Thanks

The only Ruddertwin I have right now is a C.
Took a while to dig it out. Trying to get you the
center to center distance. The line at 2″ on the
ruler is deceiving. Looking at the spacing of
the outer lines on the paper seem to indicate the
center to center distance is closer to 1 – 15/16″.
You can get the hole dia. from your flywheel
and timer. The red line indicates where a hole
need to be drilled. Oil that exits the upper
crankshaft bearing travels through this hole
to lubricate the timer.

April 17, 2022 at 9:56 am #258422Thanks Tubs, when you have time and a caliper, please take three measurements.
- inside diameter of each bore
- the distance between each hole (edge to edge)
- From these three measures, I can calculate the true ctr to ctr distance
Thanks ,
Joe
