It varies. I shoot for about 10 degrees.

I somehow remember it being 14 degrees from reading my old Scott literature. 10 degrees would be pretty close!

12 degrees is supposed to be standard.

But few follow that standard. . . 😆

I guess we’ll split the difference Wayne 😉

These ones were kicked out to roughly 12 degrees to mimic a transom. That’s about 2 1/2 and 12 on a framing square.

Mercury manual assumes 12 degree transom angle in set up guide.

Okay what is the mechanical/technical advantage of having the stands at that 10-12 degree angle? I do not run my motors off the stands. My boat transom is perpendicular. I have angle adjustments on my motors. I can adjust angles off the perpendicular. Educate me . Please.

My thought is that it puts the center of gravity more directly over the base of the stand since it makes the motor hang closer to vertical. That would make it more stable on the stand. That said, none of my stands are built on an angle. I have not found a need to do so yet.

When you tighten up the clamps, the motor is close to being vertical. This makes it easier to work on and looks better than having the motor kicked out on an angle. It also makes it easier to run the larger motors with their lower end dipped in a tub of water. On my storage racks for donor motors, the cross piece is straight as most of them are missing the clamps anyway.
