I built a motor stand with no tilt and I thought it held the motors fine. Worse case you move the tilt pin to get a good angle.

My thought is that an angle allows you to trim the motor in to bring the bow down if needed. A vertical transom would not allow this??

…maybe not the most efficient however.

I learned some very valuable information on making my first motor stand.
the first one was just by guessing at all the particulars from internet projects.
(and from seeing the very fine engine stands in "Pappy’s" hoarding barn).
I did not take into account the center of balance and when I had a 40hp Johnson
on it, it tipped over while I was moving it !!! luckily I was not hurt and nothing broke on the motor.

            Notes:
don’t use nails !!! use through-bolts on everything
take into consideration of making a pad for putting a water tub on the mount
don’t use wheels from an old office chair.
            don’t use metal saw-horse braces.
of course this is in direct relation to the size and weight of the motors you plan to put on it.

            .
