I have one of these Force 120s extra blocks and I was just looking at the enricher.   In the past I’ve looked at these enrichers and I can’t quite figure out what they’re supposed to be doing and when they are doing it.

Originally I thought they were choke replacements. They seem to have the hosew to suck gas out of one of the carburetor bowls and shoot directly in to the intake manifold below the Reed valves.

I took one off one day and tried to put 12 volts on it and I could never get it to do anything.. sound.. motion. Jump. Etc. I figured it was bad and I am replacing that with a choke style .

In my effort to replace with a choke I noticed that the two yellow lines going to the enricher do not go to the cockpit of the boat but *instead* go straight to the yellows on the stator.

So I am currently at a loss is exactly what this thing is doing.. I’m starting to theorize that the enricher is something that runs all the time and then the faster the engine goes the more openings happen..  and the more gas gets enriched?

And the secondary question here is of course how do you  get the engine initially started if the enricher doesn’t fulfill the job of the old choke??

Solved the enricher question..  It was so simple, I just hadn’t thought of the reverse electrical equation.

        Question:
        How does this enricher work:

        Observations:
Stators produce some sort of voltage over 13-15 volts.
Enricher has double pure-yellow wires directly wired to stator before rectifier.
Engine wiring harness doesn’t even HAVE a yellow and black striped wire included in the harness. (this is the clue that got me thinking that this setup HAS to be intentional and not some weird previous owner rewiring mistake.. )

        Solution:
Therefore it must be that Enricher is normally Open. high RPM Stator (Running) charge causes Enricher to close.

        Observation:
Ridiculously bad design as theres a hundred reasons an engine might not start.. and in the other 99 of them the enricher will just keep pouring gas into the Intake manifold.

Any tiny electrical problem or shorted stator would cause flooding out failure. backfires. wth…

(this also relates to an issue I had years ago where I was diagnosing an engine and disconnected the enricher Yellow lines to be SURE it wasn’t an issue…. oh yeah.. that happened)

WARNING: this only applies to the enrichers with two yellow lines.  Mercury/Force made other enrichers with a yellow and YellowBlack line, which were connected to the dash choke key push. it seems THOSE ENRICHERS work in reverse. SOME APPEAR IDENTICAL except for the wire colors.
