Looking for some advise on an Evenrude Speeditwin.

A little background story:  I don’t have any real idea of what we have here or if it is even worth anything.  This is not my motor, it belonged to a older gentleman neighbor up the road who I became good friends with (fishing & tractor buddies) & since his passing my wife & I have been trying to help his wife clean-up & sell some stuff to help her out.  This motor was in the back of his shop / barn (there was a boat & trailer too but they are gone now).  I have no idea if this is something we should post for parts (or where to post), or is this basically scrap in this condition?  I really know nothing about them, but here is what I looked up thus far:

      EVENRUDE SPEEDITWIN  Model 6039 – Serial #00569 (which I believe makes it from 1939) – I believe it was a 22.5HP

I’ll let the pics tell the rest…

Old boat motors are not my thing, so just looking for some insight from the people in the know so we can help out our neighbor…  Not looking to sell here just if this is something worth selling or not.

      Thanks n Advance,  Dennis

Thanks for stopping by SuperDuty, where are you located? Couple things on the Speeditwin. It has a steering bar installed. That looks like an alternate carb installed and someone thought enough to put a rag in the carb throat… Nothing wrong with any of that. Might even be enough there to get it back in the water for sure there are parts there someone can use. Please place an ad in the classified section here… Jim

Jim,  Thanks for the quick reply & the info…  Now that I know it is something we should try & sell for her (& not scrap), I’ll try & do a little more research on it (& a fair asking price / value ??) & try to get a classified ad up for it.  We are not trying to make a killing on anything just trying to help her clean-up & hopefully get her some money for his stuff…

We are located in eastern Connecticut…

It would be cool if it ever made it back into the water…

This is a “Hot-rodded” Speeditwin, with the steering handle cut off and a steering bar added for steering by a steering wheel.  The exhaust tube has been drilled with relief holes, there is 1949-50 lower unit with a cutoff skeg and a Vacturi AO-500 racing carburetor has been substituted for the stock Evinrude carb.  It might have had some internal work done on it. It doesn’t look to be a serious racing motor.  If not damaged internally, it could be a running motor.  There is no propeller shown and it would need one.  I don’t see a fuel line, and I’m not sure that the rod in the bottom of the tub is the drive shaft. Overall, as a hotrod of unknown internal condition, it isn’t worth more than an average Speeditwin of that age.  In my area, it would be worth no more than $200.
