Putting the magneto back together with new coils, points, condensers, etc.,
and I’m not sure the left over piece goes…… that being the oil wick clip.
Looked at several photos of mags, but can’t make out what I need to know.
Parts blow-up is of no help. Thanks for your knowledge!

The pegs that the coils sit on—the ones with the screws that go through into the mounting rings—one of those pegs is sort of squared off. The wick an clip go on that one.

So, I think you’re saying it goes under the coil?
Just fed my brain a meatloaf sandwich, so maybe
          I can think better now!
          Thanks Frank

It goes under the front, or top cylinder coil.

Hmmmm, I think I put it on the back coil….. does it matter?
Also, in the OMC tune-up kit, there was a little packet with
a new wick, points post clip, and a flat brass clip of some kind.
Is the brass clip to help hold the felt in place, or other?

The clip is to hold the points spring ( flat spring)

it goes where it goes… nowhere else. the clip oval like shaped and fits snuggly on the matching coil post.

the felt bends and locks into little abrasions on the inner side of the clip

dont loose it… very pricy item more than some motors I purchased !!! 😮

I believe since the two sections are identicle, It makes no difference on which side it is placed.
                    If I am wrong I will quickly be corrected , , , 😀

Chris, regarding the little brass clip to hold the points spring –
I found a file photo of a QD Johnson mag plate, and I think I
see the little brass clip. Is that it in the photo?
If the "movable" half of the points with the spring steel spring
goes on the inside of the fixed half of the points, what’s the
need of the little brass clip? I don’t remember any when I took
it apart…… but there say so much goo and broker coil chucks
all over it was hard to see!
Think I’ll have to pull both coils up and make sure I got the felt
wick holder on the correct post.
                      Thanks!

Bucaneer, I see a few things I wonder about. If I put them here them everyone can comment. The wick needs to be considered as to drag with the crank in a clockwise rotation. I’m like Garry, I think either post is made the same. Never have looked to make sure. I’ve never noticed the green wire put on that way (over the top). Not saying it’s wrong, just never done it that way. I don’t like to put a strain on the ground leads when I tighten them on the coil laminates. Again the green wire on your #2 coil looks to have pulled the the sheath back at the coil? May just be an optical illusion. That would be very important. Let’s see what everyone else thinks.
