hey guys . got a no spark problem . got the flywheel off and found a broken wire i think goes to the condenser . looks like there a 2 wires from the points to the condenser . could that be ? idk . coil has no cracks , points are functioning
February 15, 2021 at 12:11 pm #230826I’m pretty sure your three horse Handitwin should only have one wire from the points to the condenser. The second wire from the points goes to the coil.
Can you post a photo of the mag?
February 15, 2021 at 12:48 pm #230837Thanks . I know the ignition . has one coil with two spark plug wires . looks like the 2 clyinders fire at the same time . there is a wire from points to coil and coil to ground , I cant see any reason for 2 wires from points to condenser . also , flywheel seems to have weak magnetism . wont pull a screw driver out of your hand . your thoughts ?
February 15, 2021 at 12:54 pm #230838The coil is wired correctly but I don’t know about the second wire from the points to condenser either. Maybe in the past, someone was trying to chase down an ignition problem caused by the weak magnets. I’d say your flywheel magnets need to be recharged first though.
February 15, 2021 at 8:01 pm #230896Just got done working on my Handitwin…don’t remember seeing two wires from the pts to the condenser but my motor also has weak magnets…very slight magnetic pull using a screw driver but after completely dissembling and cleaning the points…soldered in new plug wires…replacing the condenser with a new one from a friend… the motor had decent spark…I even resoldered in the old condenser and it still had spark. It has been stated here that most flywheels don’t need remagnetizing usually other problems and that’s what I found also. Now…would having them recharged help give better spark? I don’t know.
February 17, 2021 at 10:26 am #231030HEY , THANKS FOR THE INFO . GOT INTO THE MAGNETO AND THE CONDENSOR WAS REPLACED BY A OFF BRAND . THAT 2ND WIRE WAS FOR THE ORGINAL CONDENSOR . THE POINTS ARE MISSALIGNED . AS SOMEONE TOOK THEM APART . DO YOU KNOW THE CORRECT ORDER OF THE SPACERS AND INSULATORS THAT SURROUND THE 2 SMALL MOUNTING SCREWS ? THANK IN ADVAMCE
February 17, 2021 at 11:05 am #231070Someone posted a pic ( Tubs or Mumbles?) of the layout of the points/plates and insulators earlier but I can’t seem to find it. I probably have it on my home computer. When I get home tonite I’ll try to find it and post it if nobody has by that time.
February 17, 2021 at 8:18 pm #231134February 18, 2021 at 10:34 am #231156nice . that explains a lot . i will presume that is the order of assembly ??
