I have a chance to purchase a 4366 Evinrude, serial 11929. My research puts that as a 1941/42 vintage . Before I indulge , does anyone have a copy of the parts manual for one? I would think that its the same as a 4416, but I would like to know for sure. This way , I know I can get parts. Also [ and I know this is tricky] but a value? Its not in bad shape, tank looks good with very little damage. Its missing the lower covers,, as allot of them are, other than that, it appears to be complete. I have to buy it along with a 1947 2.5HP Elgin, that I am not real interested in. It is also looks like it is in good shape, but missing some bits and pieces .

December 16, 2020 at 9:00 pm #225399I did some more research and am finding that there are some differences from the 4366 and the 4416, the coil, and condenser ,part numbers are different for one. I am trying to find out if those parts were interchangeable . The coil for the 41 motor calls for part # 257019, the 46 motor , 257370. I know I can hunt down parts for the 46 model but I am not so sure about the 41. I enclosed a picture , I ask about its worth because I don’t want to overspend for it and I already have two of the 46 motors. The seller is asking $200 for both the Sportsman and the Elgin. He says he never heard them run.

December 17, 2020 at 5:25 am #225405This is just my opinion but from what I have seen at AOMCI outboard meets, his price is off by a factor or TEN. In other words, I have seen similar engines that guys are trying to sell for $20 and they take them home, unsold. Also, I am no expert on that vintage but I think that one was supposed to have a recoil, which is apparently not included? If it were meant to be a rope start, the sheave that you wrap the rope around would be a different, more stylized one.
Long live American manufacturing!

December 18, 2020 at 9:15 am #225452I had a 2.5 Elgin that I did all the usual fuel/ignition/water pump stuff on and it ran like new. I tried to sell it at AOMCI meets and a yard sale and couldn’t get $90 for it. Wound up donating it to the Church rummage sale. I think they sold it for $35. Oh well, at least it went for a good cause.
December 18, 2020 at 10:11 am #225459Thanks for the replies. I am really only interested in the Evinrude, but the guy will not separate them. I thought that because it was most likely one of the last sold before we entered the war, that it was a bit more valuable than the post war models . I already have a Elgin,1.25HP in real good shape. So this would be a second to use as a “in case I need parts” but it looks like unless I can talk him down some ,or I get other advise here, I will have to pass. Happy Holidays All
